Chapter 789: This Was Why You Wanted Her?
Ironically, I was almost late since I spent the entire day inside the library and only realised that school had ended when students started entering the library to do extra reading after school.
The sad thing was that I didn\'t really find anything related to my Shadow Summons situation but I did learn a few tips on improving my Umbramancy at least.
One of them was the fact that I could use [Shadow Wall] on only parts of my body instead of my entire body, which could be used to hide certain parts from view. The other was that I could be using [Shadow Glide] while just going about my day since it\'s not that intrusive.
Can\'t believe I didn\'t think of that.
Anyway, I found Aeta standing in front of the school, watching everyone that was walking past the gates carefully.
No doubt she was looking for me and was afraid that I might slip out of school and escape from her.
Well, I didn\'t have any intention to do that in the first place so I just walked directly up to her.
She spotted me almost immediately and she turned her chin up at me as I approached.
"So you didn\'t run… I thought you might be too much of a coward and chose to slip away," She accused.
I shrugged, "I just want to get this over and done with so you can leave us alone."
"Tch… You can act all you want. You\'ll be saying different things later on. Follow me if you dare."
She then turned and started walking away, trusting me to follow her.
Ok… Since we\'re already in this… We might as well just go all the way I guess?
I followed a few steps behind her, directing my Shadow Guards to keep out of sight while following me.
She led me into the Merchant\'s District but that did not seem to be her destination as she continued walking until we reached the Commoner\'s District.
I would have thought she was leading me out of the city but she turned and started walking towards one of the markets within the Commoner\'s District.
At this point, I was half sure that she had hired some thugs and was leading me to some back alley just so that they could beat me up and force me to give up on Delmare.
My belief was further reinforced when I found her stopping in front of what looked like an inn with a bar on the ground floor so I was expecting her to bring me inside and get the thugs waiting inside to beat me up.
She went inside without hesitation and I paused to direct my Shadow Guards to surround the place before I stepped inside myself.
She was waiting for me past the door and then led us to an empty table to take a seat on it.
Wondering just how far she was going with this ruse, I sat down while inspecting my surroundings.
The bar section looked normal enough. In fact, it really did looked normal.
There were several waitresses serving food and the place seemed to be quite packed with people too so business was good.
I tried to look for the standard bandit looking people but was mildly surprised to see no one who might fit that description there.
That\'s not because I was looking the textbook bandits that you might expect to see. I\'m talking about bald heads, exposed arms, beady eyes and maybe someone who was licking his knife for some reason.
What I meant was that no one here even looked remotely like a Mercenary since everyone wasn\'t armed and was just dressed in casual clothes.
Granted, they could just be using hidden weapons and wearing those commoner outfits to blend in, but I can\'t tell who amongst the crowd might be doing that.
Since that was a futile endeavour, I simply sat down opposite her and a waitress hurried by to place two menus on the table.
"Welcome! Please let me know once you\'re ready to order!" She told us chirpily before hurrying off to the next table to take their order.
"It\'s my treat, order anything you like," Aeta told me, not even bothering to look at the menu in front of her.
I glanced at the single paged menu in front of me and decided on just a drink of apple juice.
Aeta gave me an odd look for that but did not comment on it.
She waved down the waitress and gave her my order as well as her own which was some vegetable and fish stew alongside her own cup of juice.
I decided to just ask the question, "So what is this about? Did you bring me here to bribe me with food to get me to give up on Delmare or something?"
She raised a finger, "Quiet. You will know soon enough."
I raised an eyebrow at that but then she crossed her arms and leaned back on her chair, showing me that she was not interested in talking to me at all.
Alright then…
While waiting, I looked at the rest of the inn and it looked like more and more patrons were entering the bar until it was filled to capacity.
Heck, even when the tables were full, some of them bought a drink from the bar and stood around though they made sure to stand at the back of the inn.
That was when I realised that there was an empty space in front of us that had a small raised platform placed on top of the floor that everyone seemed to be facing towards.
Just as I realised that this was a stage, a young Mahun female waitress walked up on the stage and shouted towards the crowd.
"Everyone!! Thank you for coming again tonight!! Are you having fun tonight?!"
There was a cheer from the crowd and several whistles as well.
The girl giggled cutely, "Ehehe~ It\'s great to see everyone full of spirits! That means you\'re all ready for the show, right?!"
The crowd cheered again and I realised what was going to happen.
"Alright! Then I want to hear all of you cheer out loud and give it up to our girls! Please welcome the Siren Sisters!"
Four girls in what I can only describe as idol outfits ran up onto the stage while waving at the crowd, causing the bar to erupt in cheers.
All four of them were Mahuns and they were undoubtedly quite attractive as well which I\'m pretty sure was one of the key considerations for them to be there.
One of the girls waved at the crowd, "Everyone! Are you ready?!"
"YESSS!!" The crowd around me cheered.
"Let\'s hit it!!"
Music then began playing and I realised there was an alcove at the side that hid the musicians from view which was where the song was coming from.
The crowd instantly quieted down and the four girls started to dance and sing, though some of the patrons did dance along with them.
I looked at Aeta, "Is this--"
I didn\'t even get to ask my question before she shot me a look and placed a finger on her lips.
Some of the patrons also turned to look at me but quickly turned back to watch the four girls dance on the stage when they saw Aeta shushing me.
I guess it\'s an established rule here that when the girls are performing, everyone should be silent while they were watching.
I guess that\'s because they don\'t have microphones or anything to amplify the girls\' voices so if the crowd was also making noise, they would not be able to hear the girls at all.
Although… I believe there should be sound amplification magic right? They could just use a Mana Crystal and… Ah… Maybe that\'s a cost that was still beyond their budgets at the moment.
At this point, I finally realised what she was doing here… Though I was wondering what part she played in this.
Truth be told, I wasn\'t really a big fan of idols even in my old World but I was at least aware of them and have watched some of them perform before, especially to gather materials to write about them.
That\'s why I could say that these girls were actually quite decent in their performance with their dancing and their coordination.
What I could not say was their singing since I was already used to Delmare\'s level of singing, but I guess they weren\'t that bad either.
So if I had to guess… Aeta really wanted Delmare to join this idol group as their lead singer or something.
Either she was a really big fan of them or… Seeing that she had a last name, the manager of this girl group.
I guess I will only find out after the performance is over.
